Tennant T12 Fault Codes: F1, F2, F4, F5, F9 and F14 Explained

TENNANT T12 / T12XP ERROR CODES · RIDER FLOOR SCRUBBER · DOCUMENTS CHECKED OCTOBER 16, 2026

Home / Error Codes / Tennant T12 fault codes

Quick answer: On the Tennant T12 and T12XP, F1 means the recovery tank is full, F2 means the solution tank is empty, F4 indicates a very low battery, F5 is a propel-controller error, F9 is a pickup-system error, and F14 identifies an ec-H2O system error. The selected meanings were checked in both North America / International manual 9009910 and Europe manual 9009918. Match the region, battery option and machine details before acting; exact serial applicability is not established here.

What do Tennant T12 fault codes mean?

The T12 uses a red fault indicator and an LCD display. Tennant states that the red light flashes continuously when a fault occurs and that the LCD alternates between codes when more than one fault is present. An audible alarm also accompanies a fault.

Displayed code Documented meaning Safe operator response
F1: Rcv Tank Full Recovery tank is full Empty the recovery tank according to the operator manual.
F2: Sol Tank Empty Solution tank is empty Fill the solution tank with the correct solution for the selected cleaning mode.
F4: Batt Very Low Battery charge is low Stop safely and recharge the battery using the approved charging procedure.
F5: Propel Error Propel controller error Stop safely and record the code. The manual permits a restart; if the fault remains, stop using the machine and contact qualified Tennant service. Never use repeated resets to continue operation.
F9: Pickup Error Vacuum system is not operating Stop operation, record the displayed code and refer a persistent fault to trained service personnel.
F14: ec-H2O Error ec-H2O system is not operating Do not continue in ec-H2O mode with a persistent fault. Record the code and obtain qualified service.

How do you reset a Tennant T12 fault indicator?

Tennant’s operator manual says to turn the machine off, eliminate the cause of the fault and restart the machine. The indicator resets after restart when the cause has been corrected. Restarting alone is not a repair: if a controller, brush, pickup or ec-H2O code returns, stop using the machine and contact a trained service technician.

What should you record before requesting service?

  • The exact code and wording shown on the LCD.
  • Whether more than one code alternates on the display.
  • The machine model: T12 or T12XP.
  • The serial number from the machine data plate.
  • Battery type and charge level.
  • Whether the fault appeared at startup, while traveling, during scrubbing or during water pickup.

Serial applicability is not stated on the cited fault-code table. Confirm the machine data plate and the current manual before using this reference for a specific unit.

Is it safe to keep operating with a T12 fault code?

Tank-level and low-battery codes call for the documented operator action before work continues. A recurring controller, vacuum, brush or ec-H2O fault needs professional evaluation. Never bypass an interlock, remove a guard, probe energized wiring or continue operating a machine that does not propel, stop, steer or recover water normally.

Safety notice: This page summarizes operator-level information from the manufacturer’s documentation. Internal electrical, battery, motor, controller, wiring and ec-H2O repairs must be performed by qualified personnel. Stop on a level surface, turn the machine off and remove the key before operator-permitted checks.

Who prepares this reference?

Prepared by CleanEquip Pro Editorial. We organize manufacturer documentation into model-specific references and distinguish documented information from unverified observations.

This article does not represent an on-machine inspection or a certified technician’s review. Follow the applicable manufacturer manual and refer electrical, battery and other service work to qualified personnel.

Report an error or suggest a source correction.

Evidence and applicability

Scope and exclusions: Both regional manuals show T12 and T12XP in the fault section. Their selected F-code meanings agree; this does not make every procedure interchangeable. Match the regional edition, battery option and machine data plate. Individual serial applicability remains unconfirmed.

Field evidence: No first-hand inspection, technician review or measured cause-frequency dataset is documented for this article. The reporting checklist is editorial guidance, not field evidence. A reader report remains unverified until checked.

Operator and service boundary

Operator observations: Record every alternating code and its complete wording, plus model and battery type. Use the matched operator manual for tank or charging actions. Observe only with the machine stopped and secured as its manual requires. Key-off alone does not electrically isolate a battery machine. Before touching or cleaning components, follow the manual’s isolation procedure; if untrained, stop at recording observations.

Stop and call a qualified technician if: F5, F9, F14 or another service fault returns, or the machine cannot move, stop or recover normally.

Never: bypass interlocks, remove protective guards for testing, probe live wiring or repeat resets to keep an unresolved fault running. Follow the applicable battery/charger ventilation instructions; this page does not authorize battery work.

Change log

— Added North America / International manual 9009910, Rev. 11 (12-2024), and cross-checked the six selected F-code meanings. Kept Europe manual 9009918 separately identified. Document-based editorial check only.

— CleanEquip Pro Editorial: Identified the Europe edition and corrected the F-code locator to printed p. 34 / PDF p. 36. This entry records a document-based editorial update, not an on-machine inspection or certified technician sign-off. Printed page numbers are the document labels; PDF positions may differ. Earlier page-footer dates do not replace the cover revision.

Report a source error or a different observed cause. Include this page URL, model, manual revision and relevant page. Describe what was observed separately from the suspected cause. Names are not credited without permission.

Keep a record or report the outcome

Use the one-page Tennant T12 observation sheet to record the exact machine, existing indication, symptom and earlier actions before contacting qualified service. It is an original reporting aid, not a repair checklist or manufacturer procedure.
